Professional BiographyLewis Buttery (b.1995) is an artist from Leicester, in the East Midlands. His work is collected around the UK, has appeared in the background of a Netflix show, and has been exhibited around 40 times. Because he got into the art world backwards, he was in the local paper and on the local radio station a few times before ever starting his degree. Once he did start, he was awarded Liquitex's BWW residency and painted live at Tate Modern as part of Tate Exchange.
Lewis graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins in 2021. Before that, in 2018, he finished an Art & Design Foundation course he had been doing part-time at De Montfort University. He had first started practicing as a fine artist self-taught in 2013 and spent the years that followed working on countless projects for local charity Soft Touch Arts. Lewis' entry into the art world came after taking time to work on his mental health, following an early exit from his A Levels - where he had originally planned to study music. He has been creative, in all its forms, all his life. |
